Rules of The Amateur Championship

Specific rules governing The Amateur Championship

 

(i) This event shall be decided over 36 holes from scratch and is open to players with a handicap not exceeding 8. In the event of the entries exceeding 72 there will be a ballot from the higher handicap entrants. All entrants must conform to regulation (2).

 

(ii) In the event of a tie regulation (4.(i)) shall apply.

 

(iii) The winner of the Amateur Championship shall normally be invited to play in the Union Team for the following season.

 

(iv) Any winner of the Amateur Championship is entitled to be awarded Union colours forthwith irrespective of the number of representative games played for the Union.

 

(v) There shall be prizes for the lowest gross scores down to fifth place, best a.m. and p.m. gross and best 36 holes nett.

 

(vi) The Boy (under the age of 18 on 1st January of the year of the Competition) who returns the lowest gross score over 36 holes shall receive the Rob McLeish Cup. In the event of a tie regulation 4(ii) shall apply.
