2017 Junior League Table

Burstwick win the 2017 Junior League at Ganton Golf Club!

On an indifferent day of weather at Ganton on Tuesday 29th August, Burstwick, Hornsea and Scarborough North Cliff juniors were all set to compete in a three player aggregate stableford competition over 18 holes for the 2017 Junior League Final.

There was some great golf played throughout the day, but Ganton showed it's teeth in places with a few lost balls and many chip-outs.

In the end Burstwick managed to clinch victory with scores of 37 (Lewis Hunt, 3 hcap), 36 (Jack Maxey, 2 hcap) and 31 (Alfie Tidder, 9 hcap) points to make a total of 104, ahead of Hornsea in second on 99 and North Cliff on 89. Congratulations to the Burstwick lads on this great score and excellent triumph!

It was also Burstwick's Lewis Hunt who took the best individual score on the day, a fantastic round of golf around one of Yorkshire's most difficult golf courses.

Scarborough North Cliff, Hornsea and Burstwick all qualify for the Junior League Final at Ganton!

Phil Woodcock, East Riding Junior Development Officer commented:

This years league has been a tremendous success, giving the juniors the opportunity to play more courses and meeting new friends. I have received some positive feedback about the quality of golf that has been played over the last several weeks, which certainly puts East Riding Union golf in a good place going forward. I must congratulate all teams taking part and especially those who now progress to the finals to be played at Ganton GC on Tuesday 29th August 2017.

I must say it was very close going into the last day, with Burstwick in the lead, followed closely by Brough and Scaborough North Cliff. However Brough was playing Bridlington away and came across a strong team, gaining only 1 win. Scarborough North Cliff managed 2 wins at Hessle, but the crunch match was between Burstwick & Hornsea at Burstwick.

Hornsea came out fighting and put up a strong effort to beat Burstwick 3-0 and gain 6 points to put them into second place, pushing Burstwick back to third who nearly missed out to Brough.

So it was an exciting finish to a memorable league, well done to all!
